Dr James Cooper

Hailing from Melbourne, James completed his veterinary degree at James Cook University, North Queensland. He began his career in mixed small and large animal rural practice in Victoria for four years before focussing on small animal emergency and critical care.

He then moved Perth, WA, to complete his three year residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Murdoch University, concurrently completing two masters degrees in clinical studies and a research thesis, publishing research on the effects of cold-storage on canine whole blood for transfusion.

He achieved membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Emergency and Critical Care by examination in 2018, and passed his specialist board exams with the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care in 2023.

His clinical interests include transfusion medicine, trauma, toxicology and extracorporeal therapies for poisonings and renal injury, and is passionate about educating and empowering other veterinary professionals to achieve their career goals and strengthen all aspects of animal care.
