Patient stories
“Karina, and all of the vet nurses and vet specialists at VSOS, have such incredible empathy."
On the hardest day of Jimmy Barnes' life, the VSOS team was there.
We are a team of leading veterinary medical and surgical specialists based in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.
Our team offers specialist treatment in vet clinics throughout Greater Sydney for pets with complex conditions. We enjoy an unmatched level of surgical and medical expertise and deliver the highest quality of care possible – meaning a better outcome for the pet… and their human.
“No matter how many times I perform the same surgery, no two will ever be the same. Just like no two animals are the same. That’s why you have to treat every patient – and owner – as an individual. Each one is unique.” Dr Nina Lorenz
Dr Andrew Scott Levien and Dr Nina Lorenz are experts in surgeries including;
Advanced diagnostic tools complement this expertise…
…and in July 2020, we take delivery of state-of-the-art CT scanners and MRI and X-ray machines. This new technology delivers high image quality and gives us the ability to quickly and accurately diagnose pets pre-surgery and closely monitor pain management treatments post-surgery. It means a more comfortable recovery.
The improved accuracy, flexible positioning and increased mobility of our imaging equipment turn complex exams into routine procedures, providing a calmer experience with minimal disruption to the patient.
We use the latest in interventional radiology to diagnose internal injury and disease, as well as treat cancer and urinary and respiratory conditions, such as:
The dedicated interventional radiology and laser-assisted techniques service at our new animal hospital, which will open in July 2020, will include urology, vascular procedures, intra-arterial chemotherapy, chemo-embolisation techniques and other laser-assisted, minimally invasive procedures.
Dr Karina Graham is a specialist vet in Sydney who is a field leader in interventional radiology and laser-assisted techniques. These cutting-edge medical procedures mean fewer complications and better success rates, and they deliver overall better care for the animal. Laser surgery enables patients to be in and out in a day procedure and avoid traditional open surgery…
…reducing both the cost of surgery and the recovery time. Surgery is less invasive, shorter and safer.
We perform a wide range of soft tissue surgeries to treat trauma-induced wounds, investigate gastrointestinal complaints such as blockages or perforations, remove tumours, perform emergency repair of a skin or muscle wound, drain abscesses or cysts, and desex animals.
Orthopaedic surgeries are a particular area of expertise and interest for all VSOS specialists and vet nurses, especially Dr Andrew Levien.
Dr Levien was the first and only Australian for a long time to complete a three-year surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in Manhattan, working with the top surgeons who invented the hip replacement system used around the world today.
Andrew’s experience working with some of the best vets surgeons who’ve done the most hip replacements on dogs and cats in the world has given him the foundations “to be able to put any broken bone back together.”
And because orthopaedic surgeries can be more invasive procedures our team makes the welfare of the animal the highest priority, ensuring accurate pain management plans are in place.
We perform many complex orthopaedic surgeries, including:
We understand that keeping a small animal pain free is critical to their recovery. Which is why the vet specialists, surgeons and vet nurses at VSOS make the comfort of each pet their highest priority.
Our mobile surgical service allows pets to recover and relax in more familiar surroundings of their local vet clinic, lowering their stress levels and enabling better pain management and faster recovery times.
By listening to the pet owners, working in partnerships with vets, as well as providing expert medical advice, the VSOS team works together to ensure your pet is safe and comfortable both before, during and after surgery.
