Patient stories
“Karina, and all of the vet nurses and vet specialists at VSOS, have such incredible empathy."
On the hardest day of Jimmy Barnes' life, the VSOS team was there.
We see all exotic pets including reptiles (e.g. snakes, lizards, turtles), amphibians (frogs, salamanders) birds (e.g. parrots, passerines) and exotic mammals (e.g. rabbits, guinea pigs).
Our Services:
Annual and new pet health checks:
Exotic pets like to hide any sickness or disease especially with many being prey species. As veterinary practitioners, we like to encourage owners to have their pet checked on a regular basis to ensure they are healthy and happy. If there are any abnormalities then we can advise you further.
Avian and reptile health check bundles:
Following on from our health checks we also provide special bundles for some species. We have different packages to suit your pet bird or reptile needs. We advise these especially for new pets or to go along with their annual health check.
Preventative healthcare:
As the saying goes: prevention is better than cure. Veterinary medicine is no different. This can include vaccinating against Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (Calicivirus) in your bunnies as well as parasite control and neutering.
Neutering:
Having your pet neutered can have both health and behavioural benefit. If you are looking to get your exotic pet neutered we recommend a pre-operative check with Dr Dean who can make sure your pet is as healthy as possible before the surgery.
Consultations for sick pets:
Should your beloved pet become unwell you should book an appointment with Dr Dean so he can perform a thorough physical exam and advise any further testing or treatment.
Surgical procedures:
Some diseases and conditions can be treated with medical management however sometimes life saving surgery. Dr Dean has performed surgery in a wide variety of exotic species so we are well prepared should this be required to hope your pet.
Hospitalisation:
Many sick pets require pain relief, fluid and nutritional support. We can provide these with our experienced staff in our hospital. We can manage and monitor our exotic in-patients in our dedicated exotic wards.
Emergency:

We’re very proud and excited to announce our Exotics department with Dr Dean Felkler.
Dr Dean graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2012 and started working for a large veterinary group across South England as their primary exotic animal vet for over 6 years. He obtained his RCVS CertAVP in Zoo Medicine in 2017 which he thoroughly enjoyed as he loves to learn and continually develop his own skill set.
In 2019 he moved to Hong Kong with a 100% exotic animal caseload. Although exotic animal medicine encompasses a large number of species including birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, lizards and more, his main passion is working with reptiles and birds. Dr Dean has treated exotic animals at first opinion, referral level and emergency out of hours.
